Roko Banana have started the year strong.
On January 6th they surprised us with “Ahir a la nit” and “Adeu Ernest“. Two songs that are a true exercise in nostalgia and reunion. . Two songs that they have translated into Catalan, which were on their first album Madness & Coffee (2018).
It’s been almost nine years since Roko Banana emerged. Since then, their sound has changed, evolved, and led them to find themselves as the songs unfolded.
And they continues to do so. Proof: “Les Pedres” and “Sona a Perdre”, two new songs that reveal to us what Gran Muralla (Aloud Music, 2026) will sound like.
A double single preview that gives us a glimpse of how far they want to go, because Roko Banana aren’t resting on their laurels. Their sensibility goes beyond what they know works for them.
Fins que surti el sol (2024) made us think about the small things that surround us, about the charm of the everyday. But do emotions stay there? Not at all, it was a matter of sharpening our gaze, of not getting stuck on the anecdotal.
That’s what happens in “Les Pedres” and “Sona a Perdre,” an alliteration that encapsulates everything you can find in reality. What sustains you, what provokes anger in you, what makes you grow. .
A double preview that makes it clear that Roko Banana can go further, that sorrow and joy are not enemies.
As with Fins que surti el sol (Aloud Music / Saltamarges, 2024), Pau Brugada has been in charge of the production of Roko Banana’s new work.
ROKO BANANA
Roko Banana are an indie-rock trio from Banyoles formed in 2017 by Mak Dzinovic (guitar and vocals), Àlex Abad (drums and vocals) and Edu Rodríguez (bass and vocals).
Their second album, El Veïnat (2021), garnered them press attention and awards in several competitions for its blend of rage and melodic calm, featuring an aggressive sound with structures leaning towards math rock and modern punk. In 2022, the EP Finalment principis solidified their unique style, which they themselves describe as the soundtrack to your own decline.
In 2024 they took things a step further with the release of Fins que surti el sol (Aloud Music / Saltamarges, 2024). This album solidified their distinctive sound and their ability to create catchy phrases and songs.
If there’s any possible point of connection between Biffy Clyro, Lysistrata, L’Hereu Escampa, and La Paloma, it’s them. What’s coming is very serious, that’s for sure.
