Undoubtedly, one of the greatest appeals of EXXASENS’ music is its defiance of categorization. The EXXASENS universe is filled with soundscapes that transport the listener to a world of countless details and interwoven melodies. It could be considered a post-rock territory inhabited by bands like Mogwai or Explosions in the Sky, to name the most representative, brimming with exquisite melodies where guitar atmospheres take center stage, though their influences from progressive metal bands are also undeniable.
EXXASENS was born in April 2007 in Barcelona as a solo project by Jordi Ruiz, guitarist for the bands Playmotive and Kyba. At that time, Jordi began composing and producing songs at home with nothing more than a computer and a guitar, simply as a hobby and without any particular goal in mind. In just a few months, he received over 10,000 visits and very positive reviews from fanzines and independent blogs. A year later, the new Belgian independent label “Consouling Sound” decided to take a chance on EXXASENS. On May 10, 2008, a first release of 200 copies was issued under the name “Polaris.” Following the release of “Polaris” in May 2008, and just a year later, Consouling Sound released their second album on August 27, 2009. With the name “Beyond the Universe”, and a total of 13 songs somewhat more elaborate than those of his previous work, EXXASENS tries to transport the listener to a universe of soundscapes where an elaborate melodic section full of guitars with enveloping delays has special prominence.
Following the release of their two previous albums, EXXASENS finished recording their third album, “Eleven Miles,” which was released on September 11, 2011. This album consists of nine new songs with a fresh sound, more powerful energy, and, as always, that spacey touch that so characterizes the EXXASENS sound. To support the release of their third album, they embarked on a 2011 tour, featuring four additional musicians and visual projections that will make each concert a truly otherworldly experience. The first show was on September 10 at Espai Jove Boca Nord in Barcelona, ??and the second was part of the Astral Festival in Russia.
