Description

The earthquake we suffered in 2020 in the form of a pandemic left DobleCapa’s plans shaking: new ideas for their next album and the idea of ??repeating with the one who, back in 2018, had become something more than their producer, Steve Albini.

None of that came to fruition. Although they returned to the stage sporadically, the recording of the new album was repeatedly delayed due to a series of personal misfortunes and the idea of ??recording with Albini vanished with the unexpected death of the Chicago genius in May 2024.

If the first single from their new album is called “Planes de mierda” it’s for a reason. It’s certainly curious that this is one of the tracks whose sound will be new to fans of the duo from Humanes. Their new album features synthesizers, mellotron, organ, bass, and guitar. At a moment of absolute chaos and the urge to throw everything overboard, DobleCapa found inspiration and creative freedom in their own studio, Buen Mambo, where Mario Navajas himself was in charge of recording, mixing and mastering.

Yo lloré porque me dolía mucho” is a title that connects past and future. The song is a forgotten recording, from around 1985, at Arianne’s grandparents’ house. The album and single cover of ” Planes de mierda”, It’s a picture taken at St. Michael’s Hospital, Emergency Department in Bristol, the day before the concert of DobleCapa closing ArcTanGent 2019. Arianne had smashed her lip after fainting in the hotel where they were staying.

This audio, recovered from a cassette tape, unites the past and future of DobleCapa. Side A consists of old, angry tracks, written from the pain of a disastrous season and featuring the basic lineup: drums and cigar box music has characterized them and led them, let’s remember, to be part of such powerful lineups as Primavera Sound, Mad Cool Festival or even ATG (Bristol) or Portals (London). After “ “Yo lloré porque me dolía mucho,” the B-side brings us new sounds, fresh ideas and a world to discover from a band whose artistic restlessness has only grown stronger in the face of adversity.

It took almost 7 years to get them back. Along the way, important characters left the game (Rafa, Paco, Nieves, and Steve), but the resilience of DobleCapa seem to be indestructible. Their passion, energy, and positive energy on stage haven’t changed, and we have no doubt that their well-deserved moment has finally arrived. Welcome back, Arianne and Mario.
