Bobbie Johnson, a solo hip-hop artist in her late twenties, mashes her multi-genre influences of hip-hop, grime, garage, and glitch to form an amalgamation of sounds that showcases her conscious thought and social commentary. She uses the self-healing tool of music to explores self-reflective themes of love in her upcoming EP ‘Defier’.

Bobbie grew up in Hertfordshire and moved to Brighton in 2008 as an attempt to get out of the countryside and immerse herself in a town that is known for its musical roots. She draws inspiration from a range of musicians, including James Blake, FKA Twigs, Kendrick Lamar, OutKast, Queen Latifah, Tom Misch and many more.

Bobbie Johnson has built up a cult following in Brighton since she began performing in 2013 and often gigs across venues such as Patterns and Green Door Store, as well as various independent pubs across the city. She has recently been on the bill for the ‘Mind Over Matter’ project in London earlier in 2018, which promotes a different mental health organisation or service at their events. As well as this, Bobbie has supported Children of Zeus at Patterns in May 2018, The Pharcyde (2016), Roots Manuva (2016), toured with Rag ’n’ Bone Man (2016), played at Boomtown Fair (2017). She has previously released her debut EP ‘You & I’ in 2016, which catalysed attention and local support that she has been garnering over the last few years. Now Bobbie returns to launch her EP titled ‘Defier’.

Bobbie defines the concept behind ‘Defier’ as: ‘mainly the battle of love and the want for clarity. To defy those who told you your love was wrong and to re-build trust and faith in those that hurt you.’

With this show, co-produced together with Sala Vol and L’Afluent, Aloud Music breaks its stylistic walls, yet following the patterns that have been our trademark since 2003: honest music, great live acts and passion above anything else. We listen to a lot of modern music and are following all that happens outside of what we are somehow expected to be dealing with. This show simply sends the message that we will keep promoting the music we like. We are alive and kicking, wanting to keep doing interesting things. Join us!
