The first 200 copies of “s/t,” palmeras negras’ debut album, lasted almost a breath. The Vortex-colored edition sold out online and at their first live shows, so we’d been waiting for this reissue for a while This time, the edition.
palmeras negras will present “s/t” at this year’s Canela Party. The band from Almeria is among the last confirmed of a spectacular line-up:.
When they emerged in mid-2022, palmeras negras defined themselves as post-everything. An EP, “ya no queda nada dónde lo dejé” (Desorden Sonoro, 2022), which made it clear that for them labels were limits to be stressed, to be pushed to such a point that they could be broken and intermixed with others. Three songs that led them to open for Monte Terror, to be part of the lineup of last year’s Happy Moy Fest alongside Viva Belgrado, and to record a new album that is being released by Aloud Music in June 2024.
Because palmeras negras is the new signing of Aloud Music. On March 22, 2024, we were able to hear their first preview, “si recordara”. A song makes us think about the value of words and how they understand post-rock. Or whatever arises, because as you listen to it you perceive traces of other styles that they themselves have known how to condense, since the album has been recorded, produced and mixed by Jesús Barrau himself, voice, guitar and synthesizers of the band.
«si recordara» is accompanied by a video clip created by Rubén Carrillo and Cristina Meca, two visual creators who have perfectly connected with the aesthetic of palmeras negras.
palmeras negras (always using lowercase) are a quintet from Almería. Some of us knew them as a trio, since that was how they recorded their first EP Jesús Barrau (vocals, guitar and synthesizers), Diego García (bass and screams) and Jesús Torres (guitar). But it didn’t take them long to become a quartet, incorporating Víctor Gutiérrez on drums, as they needed more thinking heads and executing hands for a sound that never stopped growing. Then and now, because in post-production the most enriching additions always emerge.
So much so that they have gone from reminding us of shoegaze and emo to bringing to mind elements that make us think of doomgaze and slowcore. Groups like Low, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, American Football or Black Country, New Road they are there, to wink at you with some of their arrangements.
In November 2024, they debuted their live show with the album at a tremendous concert at Monkey Week in Seville that left everyone speechless. Afterwards, they played at Aloud’s All-Dayer in Barcelona, ??practically selling out the vinyl edition of their album.
While they wait to confirm new dates, they continue working on new songs.
